Detailed Description:

Do you know surf? After you visit the California Surf Museum, you’ll be pro! The California Surf Museum houses everything surf—from the history of the sport to highlights on totally radical surfers. It was established in 1986 and has received lots of donations over the years.

There’s one permanent collection exhibit. A Brief History of Surfboards shows the progress of the surfboard, from plank surfboards in Polynesia to the surfboards top surf pros use today.

There’s one long-term exhibition. Courageous Inspiration: Bethany Hamilton educates viewers on the young surfer, Bethany, who survived a shark attack while surfing. The Museum holds her surfboard, swimsuit from the day of the attack and the documentary on her life. She continues to surf despite the attack and her lost arm and inspires visitors with this exhibit.

The Museum has one permanent installation. The Secret Spot, which artist John Lamb created for the Museum with the colorful images of a surfer, wave and beach scene.
