17 Exhibits to See in April in San Diego

There’s a lot to see and do in San Diego this month, especially in the museum world. Let’s get out and see some exhibits! Here are 17 great ideas:

  1. Sin Diego, San Diego History Center. Learn about the shady side of San Diego in the early 1900s. Just opened.
  2. Butterfly Jungle, San Diego Zoo Safari Park. With spring, butterflies and kids on Spring Break, the Safari Park has fun scheduled this month. The special activities just started revolving around butterflies and continue thru April 27th.
  3. Maritime Impressions, Maritime Museum of San Diego. Fun exhibit of impressionist contemporary art…with the theme being maritime scenes of course! Opens April 12th.
  4. A Woman’s Journey, Encinitas Community Center. OMA worked with the City of Encinitas to show this cool exhibit focusing on women. Closes April 12th.
  5. Rank n’ File, Oceanside Museum of Art. See works by a San Diego artist exploring those living below poverty level. Opens April 12th.
  6. The Painted Ladies, Spanish Village Art Center. Enjoy this free gallery and the art of Carolyn Justice between April 16-28.
  7. Collectors in San Diego, Japanese Friendship Garden. This exhibit opened last month and includes interesting pieces from some collectors around San Diego. Now is the perfect time to enjoy the Garden with the cherry blossom trees in bloom too!
  8. Jazz, Visions Art Museum. One of three exhibits closing on April 19th. Jazz is full of small quilts by members around the musical main theme.
  9. Play Days, San Diego Zoo. Take time to play during the special days that include later than normal hours and extra activities around the park. Now thru April 20th.
  10. 5, Mission Trails Regional Park. Can you guess how many photographers are featured in this exhibit? You got it, 5! Enjoy before it closes April 25th.
  11. The History of US Navy SEALS in Coronado, Coronado Museum of History and Art. Great free museum and great new military exhibit. Can’t wait for it to open on April 25th.
  12. A Celebration of Clay and Glass, Borrego Art Institute. Enjoy clay and glass pieces from artists of the region. Closes April 27th.
  13. Annual Juried Show, Fallbrook Art Center. An annual exhibit of all the best art from the region. Closes April 27th.
  14. Mother’s of Invention, Women’s Museum of California. See ceramic sculptures of an artist who explores the roles of women in society. Closes April 27th.
  15. On the Beach, MCASD: La Jolla. Art that explores the beach as a site of interaction is the theme around this exhibit. Closes April 30th.
  16. San Diego Art Prize Recipients, La Jolla Athenaeum. Check out the winners at this exhibit before it closes the first week of May.
  17. Ecosystems of San Diego County, San Diego Natural History Museum. Learn about the ecosystems of SD through the works of 14 different local artists. Closes May 4th.
