17 Exhibits to See in February in San Diego

We love a good exhibit on a San Diego winter day, and while the winter may not be brutal here, it provides the perfect conditions to visit everything our city has to offer (and you can’t say that about snow!). We’re excited about some of the cool exhibits opening this month and in a hurry to visit a few more before they leave us for good. Here are the 17 exhibits to see in February in San Diego:

  1. Nature Explored: Interpretations of Japanese Landscapes, Japanese Friendship Garden. Accept all things imperfect with this abstract show that just opened.
  2. World of Watercolor, Fallbrook Art Center. For watercolor amazingness, check out this newly opened exhibit.
  3. Prix Pictet: Power, Museum of Photographic Arts. This annual photo contest puts focus on social and environmental issues. Just opened.
  4. Scripps on Prospect: Cultural Legacy, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego: La Jolla. If you are a La Jolla fan, check out this exhibit to learn the history of the city involving the Scripps family. Just opened.
  5. Function and Fantasy, Mingei International Museum. See the works of two brothers who use many different materials and a whole lot of imagination to create their art. Just opened.
  6. Real Pirates, San Diego Natural History Museum. Just opened. This exhibit has everything pirates and is a great stop for history, treasure, cool swag and a replica boat to walk on board!
  7. Borrego Springs Art Guild Show, Borrego Art Institute. This best-of-the-BSAG show is only at the Institute for one month so go before the 28th.
  8. Lynn G. Fayman: A Colorful Life, Museum of Photographic Arts. For colorful, abstract and cool photos, check out Fayman’s work at this recently opened exhibit.
  9. Artist Alliance Juried Show, OMA/Herb B. Turner Galleries. See the best of the Oceanside Museum of Art’s Artist Alliance at OMA’s satellite space. Just opened.
  10. Coast to Coast, Visions Art Museum. This exhibit features some of the best textile and fiber art from across the US. It just opened along with two other fun exhibits.
  11. Jeanne Dunn: Wild Walk, La Jolla Athenaeum. Enjoy the wild of nature with this artist and exhibit. Closes February 15th, along with one other exhibit.
  12. Women, War and Industry, The San Diego Museum of Art. Go to this exhibit for war posters, female artists and interesting modern and contemporary art. Closes February 18th.
  13. Passion and Virtuosity, University of San Diego. The fine galleries of USD open their newest exhibit on the 21st with a focus on the art of engraving.
  14. Nature Improved, Oceanside Museum of Art. See regional artists interpret the landscape of the area with this neat exhibit. Closes February 23rd.
  15. In the Seance Room: Acquisition Highlights from 2003-2013, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego: Downtown. This exhibit is a hodgepodge of cool and spooky pieces acquired over the last 10 years. Closes February 23rd.
  16. Struck By Modernism, Mingei International Museum. The works of C. Carl Jennings, who is a California artist-blacksmith, are on display, but only until the 23rd.
  17. 48th Annual Local Author Exhibit, San Diego Central Library. Over 400 local authors are featured at this one-month-only exhibit. Closes February 28th.
