running in the new year

Here are 10 fun things to do in San Diego this weekend (January 4 and 5, 2014):

  1. Check out some awesome rides at the San Diego International Auto Show all weekend. The Convention Center hosts this annual event.
  2. Exhibits. Opening this weekend: San Diego Museum of Art Artist’s Guild at Spanish Village Art Center (opened Thursday). Closing this weekend: Crossing Cultures at San Diego History Center and Looking Toward 2015 at The San Diego Museum of Art.
  3. See the Nutcracker in a new way at Culture Shock’s version of the show. There’ll be 4 shows throughout the weekend of this holiday hip hop dance theatrical at the Birch North Park Theatre.
  4. Last weekend for ice skating! Viejas Ice Rink and Sycuan’s Fantasy on Ice at Horton Plaza close on Sunday; Hotel del Coronado’s rink closes on the 10th.
  5. Cheer on the Chargers. We want the San Diego Super Chargers to do well. We really do. Game time: Sunday at 10am.
  6. Add some miles to your fitness tracker with the San Diego Resolution Run. Fresh air, beautiful people and 2 different distances!
  7. Try your hands at a scavenger hunt this weekend. This Old Town Scavenger Hunt takes you around the city and is perfect for all of us who like SD and Amazing Race.
  8. Relax at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion on Sunday. It’s the first free concert of the year at this beauty in Balboa Park.
  9. Enjoy the start of whale watching season (technically, it started the end of December but close enough). Birch Aquarium at Scripps is a good place to go. Doesn’t it feel like the season just ended?
  10. Get outside! Whether it’s for a hike, a farmer’s market or a stroll by Mission Bay, get moving in the beautiful San Diego weather this weekend!
